Mt. Lemmon opening access ahead of schedule

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Gates typically closed due to snow could reopen sooner than expected, according to a Coronado  National Forest release.

Unless snow falls soon on Mt. Lemmon, gates that are typically closed during winter will be reopened.

Park officials will open the gates at the following locations on Feb. 28 - General Hitchcock Campground; Incinerator Ridge Road; Organization Ridge Road, Marshall Gulch; Control Road (all three gates) and the road to Lemmon Rock parking area.

The release states that ice remains on the roads to Mt. Bigelow and Bear Wallow, deeming them unsafe for travel and will remain closed.

The opening of these gates is dependent on the weather - if snow falls before Feb. 28 the gates could remain closed.
