(NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS/CNN) – Two Nebraska inmates – in separate prisons – are suing for the right to get married.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the state prison system.

Paul Gillpatrick and Niccole Wetherell say prison officials won't allow them in the same room to get married.

According to the Lincoln Star Journal, officials site security concerns. Prison policy allows inmates to marry unless a warden finds it presents a threat to security or public safety.

Both Gillpatrick and Wetherell are serving time for murder.
