Controversial gun bill might hit Brewer's desk

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Another controversial bill has the potential to make its way to Gov. Brewer's desk.

House Bill 2412 would allow teachers in Arizona schools to carry guns.

There are some restrictions, though. The school would designate one employee to have access to the gun. That person would have to have firearms training, go through a background check and keep the gun locked up.

Republican John Kavanagh said it'll protect students and school staff from a shooting similar to the one at Sandy Hook Elementary school, but Democrat Stephanie Mach said more weapons would mean more violence.

A House panel voted in favor of it Wednesday, and a vote from the full House is next.
