TUSD asks for online comments on 5-year strategic plan

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson's largest school district is now making it easier than ever for people to help shape its future.

The Tucson Unified School District is taking comments online.

TUSD's new superintendent, H. T. Sanchez, has said he wants community input into the district's five- year strategic plan.

The district is in the process of gathering that information right now.

Monday afternoon, TUSD posted, online, the videos of the district's first strategic planning community meeting.

The district says topics include curriculum and instruction, facilities, finance, communication and diversity.

The district held the meeting last week.

Students, parents, teachers, business leaders, elected officials and others participated in the brainstorming sessions.

They heard presentations by nationally-recognized education experts.

Those presentations are online, and so are the same questionnaires that participants filled out at the meeting.

Anyone may watch the videos, fill out the questionnaires and submit them to the district.

"So we're really encouraging people--if they want to have a voice early on in the first steps of building the strategic plan--that they take advantage of that," says TUSD Director of Communications Cara Rene.

The district will be taking comments on the website through March 14.

Rene says there will be more public meetings on the strategic plan.

She says Superintendent Sanchez hopes to present the plan to the school board in July for the members' approval.
