BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The wintry weather that moved through south Louisiana Tuesday morning caused problems for drivers throughout the day, as several major roadways were closed until the afternoon.

The Audubon Bridge between New Roads and St. Francisville was the last section of roadway in the Baton Rouge area to reopen. Drivers were not allowed to cross it until Tuesday night.

Many people in the Baton Rouge area with plans to spend Mardi Gras in Lafayette had to find alternative ways to spend their day. The two main routes between the two cities were closed all morning.

Louisiana State Police reported I-10 was reopened between Baton Rouge and Lafayette just before 2 p.m. after being shut down in both directions for several hours. I-110 and I-12 reopened minutes later.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reported an 18-wheeler jack-knifed on I-10 East at Whiskey Bay around 4 a.m. There were several other crashes on I-10 East on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge before it was shut down.

US 190 was closed in both directions at Krotz Springs for several hours after multiple crashes due to icy conditions on the bridge. The westbound lanes were reopened just before 12:30 p.m. A crash on the Four Mile Bridge caused the eastbound side to remain closed for a while longer, but it was reopened before 1:30 p.m.

Baton Rouge EMS reported it was called out to four crashes on the interstates during the morning hours. Officials said the first happened on I-12 at Sherwood Forest Boulevard at 5:25 a.m. One patient was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

EMS stated there were three rollover crashes on I-10. One was at Washington Avenue, another was at Dalrymple Drive and the third was at College Drive. Off the interstate, between I-10 and the Laurel area, five or six other crashes were reported. All injuries were minor.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation and Development reported all bridges in Wilkinson and Amite counties had ice on them.
