Bill cracking down on teen cell phone use while driving advances

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Arizona lawmakers have just passed a bill that would keep teenagers from using cell phones during the first phase of their driver licenses.

HB 2359 passed by a vote of 41-17.  The bill sponsored by Karen Fann of northern Arizona would prohibit teens from using wireless communication devices while driving during their instruction permit and first six months of their graduated drivers license, except for in emergency situations.

Arizona AAA has lobbied for the bill, saying young, inexperienced drivers are more likely to answer a phone call, make a call, or text behind the wheel.

The bill now goes to the Senate.
