Authorities at the border have seized what they say is the pelt of a large ocelot.
US Customs and Border Protection found the hide inside a motor home at the Mariposa Port in Nogales on Monday.
The owner told the agents he was given the pelt by a friend in Mexico.
The agents seized the pelt on behalf of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
They then determined the pelt is likely that of an ocelot.
The small spotted cats have been listed as endangered since 1982.
The investigation into the pelt is ongoing.
