Chesterfield mom accused of abusing toddler

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A Chesterfield mother spent her birthday in jail this week. 25-year-old Amada Platt is facing multiple charges. She is accused of striking her toddler in public.

We're told a customer at Brass Monkey Sports Bar and Grill called police.

"It was ridiculous," said Platt's mother Kealita Doss. "What is this world coming to?"

Doss is outraged her daughter is being accused of assaulting her young son.

"He had no bruises or anything," said Doss. "I have seen him. He has been here since the incident."

The child's grandmother wanted us to share images of the little boy. She says the images show he is a happy young child.

Doss says he misses his mother.

"You're saying this is just a case of the mom disciplining her child?" we asked.

"Yes it was," said Doss. "She just happened to be in public...at the wrong place...at the wrong time."

Platt now faces a felony abuse/ child neglect charge. Platt is also accused of profane swearing and intoxication.

"That whole situation was shocking to me," said Doss. "I couldn't believe it. They are charging her with intoxication in public in a bar setting."

This grandmother feels someone overreacted.

"She loves her children," said Doss.

Police say the child was not injured. Platt is due in court at this end of the month. She is being held without bond.
