CDO brings home 4th state Academic Decathlon championship

Canyon Del Oro's Academic Decathlon team wins its fourth statechampionship title.

Over the weekend in Glendale, the CDO Academic Decathlonearned the top score at the Arizona Academic Decathlon Finals to bring home thetrophy to Tucson, competing against 39 other Arizona teams.  

According to an Amphitheater School District release the teamscored 45,873.9 points out of a possible 60,000.

CDO's Academic Decathlon participants answered their 2,010 questionsin the following ten categories - art, economics, language and literature,math, music, science, social science as well as essay, interview and speech.

Maria Elena Pakulis, RebeccaGosla, Caleb Yetman, and Michael Yuhas, led the CDO team to a narrow win overBoulder Creek High School, said the release. Maria earned special honors as thetop student in the Scholastic Division, as well as a trophy for her perfectscore in the interview competition.

"All nine students workedtremendously hard to earn this championship," said CDO Coach Chris Yetman,in a recent release. "And will represent Arizona at the national finals inHonolulu in late April."

CDO previously won the statechampionship in 2006, 2009 and 2011.
