Feds still owe Arizona money for Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON NP, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The state of Arizona paid nearly half a million dollars to keep the Grand Canyon open during the government shutdown last fall.  It's still waiting to get its money back.

Arizona senators John McCain and Jeff Flake have co-sponsored a bill to make the National Park Service reimburse Arizona and five other states for paying out of state coffers to keep national parks open, including the Statue of Liberty and Mt. Rushmore.

The senators say states spent a total of $2 million, but even though the federal government reimbursed the Park Service, the Park Service has yet to pay back states.
