TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Students set to graduate from the University of Arizona in December may have to walk with fellow grads a little early or a little late.

The university is canceling the fall commencement ceremony, which is usually held in December.

Faculty say it's to save money for the spring commencement.

Those set to graduate this fall can either take part in the spring commencement this year or wait until next spring.

It's not clear if this is a permanent change.

SeniorVice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Andrew Comrie sent a letter to students Thursday detailing the change.

"Between onefocused University-wide ceremony and individual college convocations being heldtwice a year, students can experience the joy and excitement that comes withall University of Arizona graduates gathered together at once, and stillreceive the personalized attention that comes with the smaller collegeconvocations," he said.

The 150thCommencement of the University of Arizona will be held on May 17 in Arizona Stadium.
