Arizona men's golf finishes 7th

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona men's golf team closed out the National Invitational Tournament at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club on Sunday with a seventh place finish on the team leaderboard for the second straight season.

Arizona fired a team score of 291 (+3) in the final round to finish with a total of 862 (-2) on the 7,200-yard par-72 layout.

No. 3-ranked California won the team competition with an impressive three round total of 831 (-33). Despite a 12-under (276) team score on the day, No. 2 Oklahoma State had too much ground to make up. The Cowboys finished tied for second at 846 (-18) with No. 32 SMU. No. 38 San Diego State and No. 23 UNLV rounded out the top-5 with matching 851 (-13) team scores.

Individually, the Wildcats were led by Erik Oja as he finished tied for 10th at -4 (69-70-73=212). Alex McMahon had the low round of the day for Arizona with a 1-under 71 and finished the tournament tied for 14th at -3 (72-70-71=213).

Joel Stalter of California won the individual title at 11-under overall (68-71-66=205). He finished three shots ahead of a trio of players in Wyndham Clark (Oklahoma State), Bryson Dechambeau (SMU) and Harry Higgs (SMU). Brandon Hagy of Cal rounded out the top-five at 7-under.

Arizona senior Benson Liu finished tied for 39th at +2 (69-75-74=218), while Brenden Redfern tied for 58th at +7 (71-75-77=223). Meanwhile, Kolton Lapa fired the second lowest round of the day for the Wildcats with a 73. He finished 67th at +9 (77-75-73=225).

Playing as individuals, Christian Colegrove finished 68th (226) and Dylana Kornberg tied for 74th (231).

The Wildcats return to action on March 21 when they participate in the three-day ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
