16th bighorn sheep dies in Catalinas

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

TheArizona Game and Fish Department confirmed a bighorn sheep died after a mountain lion attack in the Santa Catalina Mountains Sunday.

This was the 16th bighorn sheep death confirmed by Game and Fish officials.

More than half the herd released into the Catalinas last November have died, mostly because of mountain lions, according to Game and Fish.

So far, three lambs have been born.

Game and Fish said it's sticking with the program and 60 more bighorns will be brought into the region over the next two years.
