2 Scottsdale schools on brief lockdown for 'suspicious package'

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Two Scottsdale schools were placed on lockdown briefly Tuesday afternoon while authorities investigated a "suspicious package" chained to a tree outside, Scottsdale police said.

The call came in about 1:15 p.m. for the suspicious package near the front of the Desert Mountain High School at 128th Street and Via Linda, Scottsdale police spokesman David Pubins said.

Both Desert Mountain High School and Mountainside Middle School were put on lockdown while authorities investigated.

Police said the item chained to the tree was a traffic control data device, and the lockdown was lifted.
