TPD searching for suspect in assault on high school student

Tucson Police are asking for the public's help in catching a suspect involved in an assault on an Alta Vista High School student.

The assault took place Tuesday morning around 8:35 a.m. when the female student was walking to school, near the intersection of Campbell Ave. and Iowa Dr.  According to a TPD release she had been approached and grabbed from behind by a male suspect, who put her in a choke hold and told her not to scream.

The victim was able to fight the suspect off and run to school to report the incident, according to the TPD release.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, possibly in his 30s, 5'7" tall, weighing about 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.  He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans with a scar on his right arm.

Anyone with information is urged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
