Starkbierfest is the swan song for Cincinnati brewers' strong beers for the season and the welcoming of spring.
This year's festival is 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Listermann Brewing Co., 1621 Dana Ave., Evanston.
We'll have a preview of the festival Wednesday on The Xtra.
Starkbierfest is a festival founded by monks in Germany. While law limited their eating, it did not limit what they could drink. They brewed high alcohol-by-volume-nutrient rich beers to compensate.
Following tradition, most beers at Starkbierfest will be 7.5 percent or higher with a couple lighter beer options on draft (breweries rotating) on the Party Source Beer trailers with every one of them being brewed in the Greater Cincinnati area.
There will be live music all day performed by local musicians. Friday will be headlined by the Gamut and Saturday will be headlined by the Just Strange Brothers.
Several different food venders will be there to serve a variety of food.
Commemorative glass mugs will be provided by Boelter Beverage.
There is no admission fee. Food and drink are sold.
