CA man suspected of transporting pot through Pinal County

A Californiaman pulled over in Pinal County for a traffic violation now faces drug charges.

A PinalCounty Sheriff's deputy stopped 25-year-old Vonheinrick Geneve, of San Francisco, onMarch 25 near mile post 202 on Interstate 10, in the unincorporated area ofEloy.

The deputysmelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and could see aclear film canister that held about a quarter gram of marijuana in the centerconsole, according to a news release.

The deputysearched the vehicle and found a backpack that had high-grade hydroponicmarijuana and a digital scale. Vonheinrick said his girlfriend rented the carfor him in California so he could visit family in Tucson, but the deputydiscovered the car was rented in Las Vegas.

Vonheinrickadmitted to buying the 1.88 pounds of marijuana for approximately $1,700, inaddition to the scale with the intent to resell the drugs, sheriff's officialssaid.

Authoritiescharged Vonheinrick with possession of marijuana, transportation of marijuanaand possession of marijuana for sale.

"He willnot be returning to California anytime soon," Sheriff Paul Babeu stated. "Instead,he will be spending time behind our bars."
