TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

University of Arizona Police have identified the student to died in a fall on a residence hall roof early Friday.

Michael Evan Anderson, a 19-year-old Freshman from Mission Viejo, CA, was climbing the metal frame of a 20-foot high cooling unit on the roof of the Colonia de la Paz residence hall with a friend when he fell shortly before 4 a.m., police say.

Police say preliminary reports indicate the fall was accidental.

A witness said he and Anderson climbed an exterior wall of the residence hall to gain access to the roof, police say.

The witness called 911 and Tucson Fire crews responded, attempting to resuscitate the student. 

Counselors will be on hand on campus this morning, to provide support for friends and classmates of the student.
