Girl, 2, nearly drowns in backyard pool on southwest side

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A two-year-old girl is in serious condition at the University of Arizona Medical Center after nearly drowning in a backyard pool.

Drexel Heights Fire officials said this happened at a home on the southwest side around 4:15 p.m.

Officials said it happened on Paseo de las Aguilas, near Valencia and Camino de la Tierra.  A family friend pulled the girl out of the pool and performed CPR.  She was conscious and crying when paramedics arrived.

This is the first water-related incident like this in for Pima County in 2014. Last year, first responders reported six deaths in 24 total incidents. That number is higher than the 2012 figures of four deaths in 15 incidents.
