An 18-year Goldsboro police veteran has been charged with 12 felony sex offenses and subsequently fired from the police department.
Chad Everette Calloway, 43, was fired by the Goldsboro Police Department on Jan. 10 following an investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation.
On Monday, he was arrested and charged with statutory sexual offenses against a minor.
According to the Wayne County Superior Court, Calloway was indicted on 12 felony sex offenses, including five counts of statutory rape/sex offense of a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old; four counts of indecent liberties with a child; and three counts of sex offense in a parental role.
Calloway had been with the GPD since April 19, 1995. The highest rank he held prior to his firing was captain.
The officer's termination letter cited a GPD order stating that "officers and employees of the department are prohibited from engaging in any immoral or indecent conduct."
The letter further cited a city policy defining detrimental personal conduct as "behavior of such a serious detrimental nature that the functioning of the city may be or has been impaired" and "the laws of any government may be or have been violated."
Calloway was released from the Wayne County Detention Center on a $500,000 unsecured bond.
