Arizona Gives Day is a one day (24 hour) online fundraiser for nonprofits in the state.
There are more than a 1,000 nonprofit organizations listed on the azgives.org site, with 150 of them located in Tucson. From midnight Tuesday to 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday the public will be able to search for their favorite nonprofit and donate via an online link.
Not sure which nonprofit to donate to - search via name, category or zip code to find the one closest to donate to. Donations made via the online fundraiser will go directly to the organization, not to a general fund as some do. This will allow for local nonprofits to benefit right away from generous donations.
According to a release from Arizona Gives organizers within the first four hours of the fundraiser, the public has donated more than $123,322 to nonprofits in the state.
In 2013 Pima County residents donated $155,401 to 135 nonprofits located in the county, with the average donation being $65. This accounted for 25 percent of all donations made in Arizona during last year's campaign.
There are additional monetary prizes awarded to the nonprofits in the following categories - most donors overall; most dollars overall; small nonprofits most donors; rural nonprofits most donors; and golden ticket (most donors per hour).
