Sierra Vista man arrested on child abuse charges

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Sierra Vista man was arrested on child abuse charges after a three month old was treated for fractured ribs at the University Medical Center.

Steven-Michael Rothbauer, was arrested by the Cochise County Sheriff's Office and now faces the following charges - four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of endangerment and two counts of child abuse.

Rothbauer was identified after the mother told CCSO deputies he had watched the twins on Saturday, April 5 while she went shopping, said a CCSO release. 

According to the release initial x-rays of the first twin revealed fractured ribs, and subsequent x-rays showed a fractured skull as well as a broken arm that were various stages of healing. The second twin was brought in and examined, after x-rays doctors discovered he too had a fractured skull.

CCSO detectives brought Rothbauer in for questioning on Tuesday evening and after the interview he was arrested, according to the release.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation.
