SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Every week inside Paradise Lanes in Spartanburg, there is a bowler who inspires those around him.

He is a member of the Kings and Queens League for bowlers over 50 years old - and Jim McGuffin is 95 years old, born in 1918.

His age makes his weekly bowling an accomplishment. But it doesn't end there. He is also a really good bowler. He recently bowled a perfect game.

"That is 12 strikes, every frame, 300. That's what I guess you'd call a perfect game," said McGuffin.

In the Kings and Queens League, McGuffin is the most senior member. The league president described how it works.

"It's a mixed 9-10 handicap league. If you get nine pins or better it counts as a strike," said David Baldwin. He added when asked about McGuffin, "He's an inspiration to all of us. We try to be as good as he is sometimes."

Being as good as he is would be a challenge. FOX Carolina was there when he continued to bowl strikes during a recent game. His teammates gave him high fives and encouragement. They have become close over the years.

"I like being with the people and I like the competition. I like bowling," said McGuffin.

So what is McGuffin's secret to so many strikes?

"It helps to put it in the right place," McGuffin replied.

He explained he always looks for the perfect spot on the floor to roll his 13-pound ball. Every time he is up, he has a certain technique.

"I guess mostly a hook ball. A curve," he said.

No matter what it is, it is working for him. McGuffin, a World War II veteran, has been bowling since the 1930s. That means he has been hitting the lanes for more than 75 years. He has advice for others who would like to take up the sport.

"Don't strive for the high score so much. It makes it more enjoyable, but just being here and taking part," McGuffin advised. "If you enjoy the game, which I do. I enjoy bowling."

The next Kings and Queens League begins May 20 at Paradise Lanes, so interested bowlers can call to sign up. The bowling alley also offers a free summer kids bowling program. Click here for more information.

For the first time, shopper in America are likely to make more purchases on line than in brick and mortar stores. It's a shift which has been coming for years but this is likely to be the first time it's crossed the threshold. While the effect on big retailers can be mitigated somewhat by on line offerings, it's not quite as easy on smaller, local stores.
