Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix raises $8 million

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Valley's annual Celebrity Fight Night gala held Friday night in North Phoenix raised $8 million.

The money will benefit a number of charities, including the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute.

It's one of the biggest charity events in the nation. A-list stars hit the red carpet at JW Marriott Desert Ridge. 

Robert DeNiro, Joe Torre, The Band Perry, Michael Buble and many other celebrities were there to support a good cause.

"It's just a very powerful," said actress Melissa Peterman. "It's amazing. My jaw drops when I see how much money they raise."

The event included silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner and a dazzling show.

The live auction featured a space flight experience onboard the XCOR Lynx, rocketing up to 200,000 feet in five minutes to suborbital space.

The two highest selling live auction items of the night were a private dinner at the home of Reba McEntire and a special evening featuring dinner with Robert De Niro, Billy Crystal and Joe Torre at De Niro's Locanda Verde in New York. Each dinner was sold twice for $500,000.

Celebrities say each year is always so memorable.

"What keeps people excited is Muhammad Ali," said musician David Foster. "No matter how he's feeling he makes the effort and he is here. It just speaks volumes about him as a human being and what he's done for our planet."

Over the past 20 years, Celebrity Fight Night has raised $95 million for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center and other charities.

    Tucson Police need the the public's help in finding a missing elderly woman. 87-year-old Ramilda Guglielmo has dementia and was last seen near the area of Grant Road and Silverbell Road at 10:30 a.m.  Police said she is about 5'2" tall and weighs about 155 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white top and dark pants.  If you have seen her, call 911.

    There was no warning, and no heads up, when Tucson Fire Department firefighters went rolling into a south side neighborhood over the weekend. They were on a mission, with a plan to install safety measures.
