EL MIRAGE, AZ (CBS5) -

El Mirage police took a man into custody Thursday night after his sisters called 911 and said he threatened them with a knife.

Police said the 29-year-old man refused to come out of the house near Scotts Drive and Larkspur, leading to a standoff that lasted several hours.

The two women had locked themselves into a bedroom about 6:15 p.m. to get away from their brother, and were taken to safety by officers who forced their way into the home.

The man barricaded himself into a different bedroom before officers eventually made their way into the home and took him into custody about 10:30 p.m.

Medics took the man to a mental health facility for evaluation.
