New lot could improve parking, traffic flow at the fair

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The new parking area at the Pima County Fair will hold an additional 2,000 cars, on top of the 10,000 capacity of the original parking lot.

Fair officials say the extra spots are needed because more people are attending the fair; in 2013 the lots were almost at capacity. The hope is this new parking lot will make it easier to leave the fairgrounds by reducing the amount of traffic on Houghton Rd, since drivers will be directed to the Rita Road exit.

Officials are assuring fair goers there will be no long walk to the main gate, shuttles will be provided to bring visitors from their parked cars to the gate.

The fair gates open at 1 p.m. (on weekdays) and the ride midway opens at 3 p.m.  Fair hours are earlier on weekends.

Parking will be $5 and admission for adults is $8, while children 6 to 10 are $3 and those five and under are free.
