TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

University High School, in the Tucson Unified School District made the top ten of the nation's high schools, according to U.S. News and World Report.

The TUSD high school ranked number 7 on the list of top high schools in the nation.  The rankings were released today by U.S. News and World Report, and are based on criteria that include a school's performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.  There were more than 19,400 schools evaluated in 2014, according to a TUSD release.

According to Dean Packard, Principal at University High, the rankings reflect the school's concerted efforts to improve PSAT scores and the number of students taking and passing Advance Placement (AP) tests.

"The ranking is an important recognition for the efforts put forth by the entire community," Packard said.  "The students work really hard, the staff works really hard and the parents and the foundation are committed to helping students at this school succeed.  It's a validation of all those efforts."

University High School, also scored a 100 in college readiness and ranks number three in Arizona, while Sabino High School is ranked number 14.

"We as a school, we as a district, are doing something right for our students," Packard said.
