Company using Sierra Vista Fire Dept. in scam

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Scammers are using the Sierra Vista Fire Department to solicit funds from residents and businesses around Sierra Vista.

According to a Sierra Vista release, the SVFD had been previously contacted by the alleged scammers, but has said they never granted permission for that company to use its name to solicit funds, nor do they endorse the company's efforts.

"Our community is filled with wonderful people with generous, giving hearts," said SVFD Chief Randy Redmond in a recent release. "It's sad to think that a company would exploit that generosity using the guise of supporting our fire department."

The scammers are asking for donations for magnets, allegedly in support of the SVFD.

Should any member of the community receive a call from a business claiming to be associated with the SVFD and asking for a donation, they are asked to call 417-4400, to confirm it is a legitimate fundraiser before making any donations.
