TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Students at San Miguel High School in Tucson prove that you don't have to be an expert to share an idea at the school's TEDx Talk.

Several students took the stage Tuesday night talking about subjects like sexual abuse and battling stress.

Andreina Valenzuela, who spoke about lucid dream, said there's more to the talks then walking on stage with a microphone and an idea.

"We've taken a lot of time to develop how can it actually benefit everybody else, maybe even the world," she said.

TEDx is the name given to independently organized lectures set up like the world-renown TED Talks. Experts and leading names in technology, entertainment and design typically provide the content, but TEDx lets everyone get involved.

"Anybody can do these talks," said Marco Cota III. "You don't have to be a grand scientist to come up with something interesting."

Tuesday marked the school's first TEDxSanMiguelHighSchool, and Cota said he would like to see the program pop up in more spots around Tucson.

"It's a great way to get your ideas out there and it's a really good step in trying to become someone that's going to change the world, not just live in it."
