TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A local man is $44,000 richer after he won a lawsuit for an injury he obtained after falling into a manhole.

According to court documents, Alfred Perales said he was walking his dog on Sept. 23, 2012 on a sidewalk in the 5500 block of S. Park Avenue when he stepped on a manhole cover.

The cover was not secure, it flipped and he reportedly fell in the hole, causing significant injury to his groin.

Perales filed a lawsuit against the city of Tucson and the Tucson Water Department for negligence,  among a list of other charges. The city announced a settlement with him for $44,000, according to Lane Mandle, a spokeswoman for the city.
