High-speed streetcar testing set for Wednesday, Thursday

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

High speed testing of the latest streetcar will begin at 11 p.m. Wednesday night and end at 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

The testing will happen on University Blvd. between Fourth Ave. and Euclid.  High speed testing was also done back in March on several of the other streetcars in the fleet.  This evening's testing will be for the seventh streetcar in the fleet.

Streets that will be closed to traffic will be the south side of University from Fourth Ave. to Tyndall Ave.

The key to the success of the testing will be parking.  According to Sun Link officials parking will not be allowed on the south side of University along the testing area.

Permitted vehicles for residents in the area will have to park on side streets, at some point during the testing, police officers will allow vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians to cross University.

High speed testing is expected to continue throughout the rest of the spring and into summer.
