CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department says that an inmate walked off from the county jail on Wednesday evening.

The inmate was an outside trusty and had regular access outdoors.  He is identified as Thomas Kyle Wagoner; a white male, age 23. Wagoner is 6'03" tall and weighs 220 lbs. He has brown eyes and brown hair. Wagoner also has various noticeable tattoos, as well, that may help identify him.

Sheriff's officials say a female jailer last saw Wagoner on the front steps of the jail Wednesday night when she left to get dinner.Whene she returned, there was no sign of him. A short time later, a woman called the sheriff's office saying Wagoner just called her and was out of breath, like he had been running. Officials believe he may have walked out a side door and into the woods, because they never saw him leave on surveillance video.

Authorities have no leads on Wagoner's whereabouts, but they believe he may have caught a ride and is no longer in Cherokee County. He was not armed when he left the jail. He has family scattered across Cherokee County, and in the areas of Frankston, Troup, and Whitehouse.

Wagoner was brought to the jail in February on a bench warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. He was set to go court on the charges, but a date has not been set.

The U.S. Marshal's office is helping with the case and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Please immediately call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department at
(903) 683-2271 if you know where Wagoner might be.
