LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Joseph A. Farrow, the Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol, accepts the highest state honor for excellence in the protection of children and youth from the Child Safety Network (CSN) www.csn.org.
With thousands of PTA leaders in attendance at the 115th Annual California State PTA convention at the L.A. Convention center, Ward Leber, founder of CSN presented the award to the leader of The CHP, the largest state law enforcement agency in the US and the 5th largest police agency in the U.S.
Leber said: "Joe is the man responsible for enforcing the state's life-saving school bus inspection policies and school bus driver requirements; he is a true hero and an inspiration to all of our volunteers and child advocates thought the state. With thousands of acts of individual heroism each and every day under Joe Farrow's command, Commissioner Farrow deserves our highest respect and gratitude."
In thanking the Child Safety Network for the award, Commissioner Farrow said: "School bus drivers are tasked with carrying our most precious cargo on a daily basis. That is why the California Highway Patrol is fully invested in ensuring that the state's school bus drivers, and the vehicles they operate, remain a safe form of transportation for California's children."
About Joe Farrow:
Joe has served with the CHP since 1979. His first job in law enforcement was as a traffic safety motor officer with the Pacific Grove Police Department. He then joined the CHP and worked his way through the ranks, becoming deputy commissioner in November 2004. He was appointed to the post of CHP Commissioner by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008 and reappointed by Governor Jerry Brown.
