Northwest Fire crews responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident near Cortaro and Thornydale.

There were two vehicles involved in a head-on collision, according to Capt. Adam Goldberg from the Northwest Fire District.  There were three patients at the scene.

The driver of a white SUV, a woman in her 30s, was taken by ground ambulance to the UAMC trauma center in critical condition, Goldberg said.

Her child was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the pick-up was a man in his twenties or thirties. He suffered minor injuries.

The roads remain open, though drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

It was unknown if the victims wore seatbelts.
