ELOY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

New video is shedding light on a deadly officer-involved shooting that took place over the weekend the small town of Eloy, northwest of Tucson.

According to the Eloy Police Department, Victor Arenas was killed in the shooting outside his home early on Sunday morning.

Arenas' family said he went outside with his gun around 4 a.m. because he thought an intruder was trying to break-in.

The officer was in the area investigating a burglary call and Arenas' family says they couldn't tell it was a cop shining a light on their house and that Arenas was just trying to protect his family.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, Arenas fired his handgun at the officer first and the officer returned fire. Arenas was hit and ran back towards his house where he fell to the ground.

The officer performed CPR on Arenas until medics arrived. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officer remains on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
