Police have apprehended a 21-year-old man accused of shooting a Middletown man in the head and aiming a gun at an officer.
Officers received reports around 1 p.m. that a man was shot in the head near the intersection of Cleveland Street and Hill Avenue. The caller advised authorities that the suspect fled the scene on foot heading eastbound.
Police arriving on the scene were able to locate the suspect. Authorities say they chased the suspect through the area of Wicoff Street and Queen Avenue.
Authorities say that the suspect pointed a gun at an officer before dropping the pistol to avoid being struck by a vehicle. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Nathaniel Turnbow, was then apprehended by police.
Officers say that Turnbow beat and shot 26-year-old William McCarthy. McCarthy was transported to Atrium Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.
The gun used in the incident was found to be stolen.
Turnbow has been charged with felonious assault, having weapons under disability, resisting arrest, brandishing a weapon and receiving stolen property.
