VA looking for donations for homeless veterans

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Happening this morning, people are walking to raise awareness about a serious issue in Southern Arizona, homeless veterans.

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is holding its fourth annual VA2K Walk and Roll at the VA Medical Center. The walk is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. this morning.

The event benefits both the homeless veterans, it promotes employee wellness.  VA employee participants are asked to donate any of the following items for the homeless veterans support program - backpacks, reusable water bottles, jeans (both men's and women's) underwear, shorts, and sweat pants (waist sizes from 28 to 48), boots, socks, hats, sunglasses, reading glasses, sunscreen, fingernail clippers, denture cleaner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, can openers, appointment books and rain ponchos. 

Organizers are also looking for donations of pet food, for those veterans with animals - they need food, and treats. 

Also in need of are shower curtains with rings, table lamps and bed pillows for the HUD/VASH homeless quarters. 

The public is asked to donate items as well.
