(GENERAL MOTORS/CNN) – More crashes are now being linked to faulty ignitions in General Motors vehicles, according to a GM spokesman.

The number of frontal-impact crashes tied to the problem is now 47, which is up from the previous number of 32.

GM said the number of deaths related to the problem remains at 13, but officials with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have said they believe that number is likely higher.

GM has recalled 2.6 million vehicles worldwide because of the ignition switch.

The Justice Department is considering whether to bring criminal charges against the automaker for how it handled the recall.
