Old hospital beds get a new life overseas

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Old medical equipment from a hospital right here in Tucson will be put to a new use.

Volunteers this morning are preparing to ship old hospital beds to needy people overseas.  They will soon load the beds in a shipping container for shipment to the Philippines to help with typhoon relief efforts.

The loading will take place at a warehouse near Toole Avenue and 12th Street this morning. The beds were brought to the warehouse from the Tucson Medical Center, after the hospital upgraded its old beds with new high-tech versions.

The beds were given to the 3000 Club's American Medical Aid Program, whose mission is to deliver medical resources to under served communities.  It costs about $100 per bed, which adds up to a $35,000 donation to the club.

The donated beds are expected to arrive in the Philippines in the next few weeks.
