TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A local trauma surgeon who helped save lives after the Jan. 8 shooting is out with a new book telling what he saw in the operating room.

Dr. Peter Rhee will sign copies Tuesday of his memoir "Trauma Red: The making of a surgeon in war and in America's cities."

He and his team helped treat Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and other victims rushed to the University of Arizona Medical Center. Now he writes about what he called a "bloody, bloody, bloody day at the office."

Rhree grew up in South Korea and Uganda, watching his surgeon father. He also worked at trauma centers in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
