TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

With troop levels in Afghanistan to be lower than 10,000 by next year, how does that affect Tucson's military numbers.

Combat operations officially end by 2015, and several hundred military members from Davis-Monthan and Ft. Huachuca will be coming home.

While officials at Davis-Monthan could not be specific about where their airmen are deployed due to security reasons, they did say that about 600 are stationed around the world. That includes a range from pilots to food service workers.

D-M officials say around 500 deployed is a pretty typical number at any given time.

Ft. Huachuca officials say they just had a unit deploy to Afghanistan at the beginning of May. There are about 300 soldiers making up the 40th Expeditionary Signal Battalion.  Their jobs are performing communications contingency operations.

Officials say they have not received any guidance yet to determine who returns at the end of the year.
