TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Remembering to not leave kids in hot cars might seem like a no-brainer, but last year alone, 50 children died from being left in a parked car.

The Pima County Health Department wants to remind the public to never leave children alone in a car, even for a minute. It said it doesn't matter if you open the window slightly; That will not help cool down a child.

The health department said routines and distractions have people leaving their children in cars by mistake. It recommends parents leave a cell phone, purse, brief case of gym bag on the floor in front of the child in the backseat, forcing them to look back there before leaving the car.
