Preps for NASCAR's arrival underway

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Summer Sizzle Beach Party is this Saturday out at Tucson Speedway.

The one race every year where the number of laps in the premier Super Late Models division is set by whatever the high temperature is on race day.

Last year it was 105 so the driver ran 105 laps in a race that was won by Ron Norman.

Norman is a seven-time points champion at Tucson Speedway and has a commanding 144-point lead heading into the final two races of the season.

There will be no summer break at the Speedway as there has been the last several years when the Monsoon hits. The arrival of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will have drivers right back on the asphalt oval for the start of that season on July 12th.

There will be ten races in the NASCAR season that will conclude in late October.

I headed out to JPU Racing's garage on Friday and chatted with Norman and teammate Scott Rueschenberg. Click on the video above to hear what major new benefit drivers will get from the tracks renewed affiliation with NASCAR.
