In a game built as a first meeting against a former teammate, it's Bronson Arroyo's catcher who powered the Reds past the Diamondbacks Friday night.
Devin Mesoraco hit a grand slam off Arroyo in the early innings and added a solo home run in the 9th inning as the Reds beat Arizona 6-4. Mesoraco is up to eight home runs, one shy if his career high for a season.
Reds manager Bryan Price made several changes to the Reds line-up and it paid off. Making his first career start at first base, Roger Bernadina had two hits including an RBI double. The Reds hadn't scored more than three runs in six consecutive games.
Mike Leake picked up the win to improve his record to 3-4. Arroyo lost the game to fall to 4-4.
The Reds have evened the series at a game apiece with two games left this weekend in Arizona.
