Dragic named 3rd Team All-NBA

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic was named to the 2013-14 All-NBA Third Team, the league announced today.

After also being named the 2013-14 Kia NBA Most Improved Player on April 23, Dragic garners his first career All-NBA Team selection and is the first Suns player to receive the honor since Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire were both named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2009-10.

Dragic averaged a career-high 20.3 points and 5.9 assists, while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from behind the three-point arc to join Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek (while playing with the Suns in 1991-92), LeBron James (2012-13) and Larry Bird (1984-85, 1986-87, 1987-88) as the only four players in NBA history to exceed 20 points and five assists in a season while also shooting at least 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.

Totaling 115 points in the balloting, Dragic received one First Team vote and was joined on the Third Team by Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard, Charlotte's Al Jefferson and Indiana's Paul George.

The All-NBA First Team consisted of James (Miami), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City), Joakim Noah (Chicago), Chris Paul (L.A. Clippers) and James Harden (Houston). Stephen Curry (Golden State), Blake Griffin (L.A. Clippers), Kevin Love (Minnesota), Dwight Howard (Houston) and Tony Parker (San Antonio) received All-NBA Second Team honors.

The voting panel consisted of 125 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. The balloting was tabulated by the independent accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP.
