Fire destroys two apartment units in north side

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

At least two units were destroyed by a fire that spread in the upper level of an apartment complex in the north side Wednesday.

Tucson Fire received calls about smoke rising from the apartment building around 5:43 p.m.

Tucson Fire Department PIO Barrett Baker said everyone in the building got out safely and there were no reported injuries. Two cats and two pet gerbils, however, died in the fire.

Four people were displaced from their homes while several ground-level units sustained water damage.

An electrical malfunction likely caused the fire, according to Baker.
