Progress being made on new Salvation Army Hospitality House

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Construction on the Salvation Army's new hospitality house to help the homeless is making progress.

It has been five months since construction workers broke ground on the project.  Now the walls are up and work is progressing daily.

When the building is complete it will have more than 100 beds for the homeless.  The new building is near 11th Avenue and First Street.

Salvation Army officials say their old facility is nearly 50 years old and starting to fall apart; there is also less space for the homeless to sleep - the old facility has less than 100 beds.

Currently the Salvation Army is in phase one of construction and is still in need of money to finish.  The plan is to have construction completed on the new building by the end of 2014.
