Eugene, Ore. – The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) announced the regional awards for the 2014 outdoor season on Monday. Redshirt senior Nick Ross was named the 2014 Men's West Region Field Athlete of the Year.
It is the second-straight year (redshirted 2013) that Ross has received the honor. Also, Ross earned the same honor during the 2014 indoor season. Ross has competed in seven high jump competitions this outdoor season, has earned a first-place finish in each of those seven. Four times this year, Ross has cleared 7-4 or better. Ross' clearance of 7-6.5 (2.30m) is the top clearance in the country this year and also broke the school record set in 1980 by James Frazier. At the 2014 Pac-12 Championships, Ross earned all-conference honors in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. It is the second-straight year that he has accomplished that feat. Ross won the high jump title, the third of his career at the conference championships. Ross and Dick Fosbury are the only two men in conference history to win three titles in the men's high jump.
Ross will compete in the high jump on Friday at 3:20 p.m. MST at the NCAA Championships.
