Victor Hampton will now have a chance to play in the NFL.

The former South Carolina Gamecocks defensive back, according to his agent via Twitter and his attorney, has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hampton previously had workouts with the Bengals and the New York Giants following the NFL Draft.  The contract now gives the former All-SEC defensive selection a chance to make the 52-man roster.

Hampton, who decided to forego his final year of eligibility with the Gamecocks, was initially projected to go anywhere from the second to the fifth round. However, Hampton was never called.

The Darlington High School graduate had some off-field issues that potentially hurt his stock in the NFL Draft. Hampton was question about an incident in April at a New York nightclub, but he was later cleared of any wrongdoing from that incident.

Hampton finished his junior campaign at South Carolina with 51 tackles (43 solo) and three interceptions.

Dylan Thompson threw for three touchdowns and No. 24 South Carolina's maligned defense stood strong on a fourth-quarter goal line stand to topple No. 6 Georgia 38-35 on Saturday night.
No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago - and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

Georgia can establish itself as a top-tier beast if it gets by South Carolina this weekend - and USC would drop to 0-2 in the league with a loss. Tennessee travels to Oklahoma, where Coach Bob Stoops doesn't believe the SEC is all-powerful.
