Gamecock earns baseball All-America honors

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

South Carolina junior catcher Grayson Greiner earned second-team All-America honors, announced by Baseball America Wednesday. 

Greiner was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the MLB draft. He played in 60 games with 58 starts, hit .311 (66-for-212) with 39 runs scored, 50 RBI, 13 doubles and eight homers, also a .389 on-base percentage and a .486 slugging mark.

Greiner was named the 2013-14 USC Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Year alongside Gamecock football/basketball standout Bruce Ellington. Greiner has been recognized in the baseball circles as well as he was a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award for the top catcher in college baseball and was on USA Baseball's Midseason Watch List for the Golden Spikes Award.  Greiner earned SEC All-Defensive team honors fielding .995 this year at catcher with just two errors. 

Greiner hit a team-best .327 (37-for-113) in league games with four homers and 24 RBI vs. SEC teams. His career .994 fielding percentage is the best percentage by a Gamecock catcher in school history (1168 PO, 97 A, 7 E).
